CouncilDescriptionThe draft City of Fremantle Local Commercial Strategy has been prepared to establish the aims, policies and proposals for retailing and other commercial development in Fremantle ; to apply the strategic planning policies set out by the State Government ; to identify centres and commercial locations requiring particular action ; to provide a context for the preparation and review of commercial provisions in Town Planning Scheme No. 3 ; to guide private sector investment and the City's capital works expenditure ; to provide Council with a basis for decision-making on development applications, rezoning proposals and the provision and location of future Council services and facilities. A two-tier commercial centre strategy is recommended for Fremantle comprising the regional centre and existing neighbourhood and local centres. The focus for City and suburbs is on achieving qualitative improvements to the existing commercial centres in order to improve their appearance, safety and performance. Many centres also form gateway locations for the local authority, and city centre and aesthetic improvements should be sought. Following analysis and review of each centre, a policy to guide future use, streetscape, parking provisions and building improvements should be completed.ImprintFremantle, W.A.
