CouncilDescriptionThe objectives of this draft bicycle plan are to ensure that bicycles receive appropriate attention within the overall transportation and land use planning in Fremantle, that bicycles are promoted as accessible to all segments of the community - providing added benefits of low pollution, noise levels, and parking requirements, reducing congestion and increasing energy efficiency, to increase cycling safety and convenience in Fremantle, and to promote cycling as a viable and versatile mode of transportation for day to day needs as well as for health, sport and recreation. Part A of the report is concerned with the planning philosophy and strategic issues inherent in the need for bicycle planning. Part B is concerned with the construction and implementation of a bicycle plan specifically for Fremantle. After a general introduction to the planning situation in Fremantle, a plan for engineering action is developed.
