Corporate AuthorDonaldson+ Warn, Architects; Van der Peryl Marine Consultants; BSD ConsultantsDescription This report was undertaken to supplement the" Fremantle port and boat harbour precinct study" and investigate and develop the concept of Fremantle as a maritime precinct. It was prepared for the City of Fremantle, the Fremantle Port Authority, the Department of Transport and the WA Maritime Museum. The report recommends that there is sufficient maritime activity to justify the development of such a precinct to unify a number of maritime focus areas where different activities and functions occur. Proposing such a framework will allow the characteristic diversity and richness of Fremantle to continue, enable specific enterprises to develop and help restrict incompatible developments / activities occurring within the thematic areas. Eight such areas are identified and a developmental focus is proposed for each area. Specific recommendations are then made to support this focus and strengthen the character and identity of each area. The maritime precinct is not intended as another layer of government/ administration but will work within the existing control framework. The precinct should be incorporated with the statement of planning policy prepared for waterfront areas.
