Bellevue Terrace was previously known as Higham Road. The short portion north of Fothergill St was originally Higham St. John Joseph Higham was one of the Town Councilors. His family arrived in the colony in 1853. Council rate books indicate the change of name occurred in 1923, although the change is shown on a 1908 sewerage plan. House 63 Bellevue Terrace is on Lot 740/41 parts 10 and 11. The house number changed in 1924/25 from 61 to 63. Between 1885 and 1890 the land on which House, 63 Bellevue Terrace stands was vacant and owned by James Healy, a carter. Between 1892 and 1903 five cottages were built on Lots 741 and 742. In 1892 one cottage appears, in 1901/02 three cottages are listed and in 1902/03 all five appear. In 1902/03 David Hughes owned all five cottages which were recorded in the rate books as either cottage pt 10 or 11 and not with individual numbers. The tenants were; Charles Phillips, a grocer, Sarah Ann Ravenstrunk, James William Williams, a clerk, David Abott, a railway official and John Joseph Wattman, a labourer. In 1908/09 the cottages were owned by Frank Nicholas and Charles Henry Pierce. 63 Bellevue Terrace was then numbered 61 and was occupied by Harold Branch. In 1920/21 the five cottages were owned by Alfred Frederick Dur Lacher and 61 Bellevue Tce was occupied by Preston Cook. Ownership of the five cottages changed again in 1922/23 after the death of Alfred and passed to Hester Hyem. In 1924/25 the street numbers changed to what they are currently and J Spence owned one cottage (number 57) and the other four were owned by Ann Sarah and Blanche Maude Hunter. Number 63 was occupied by Angelia King. In 1940/41 number 63 was still owned by the Hunters and occupied by William Harold Wansey. This place was identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80 as being of cultural heritage significance. (Coded: Red: "Significantly contributing to the unique character of Fremantle") The ‘West Australian’ Real Estate Liftout Sept 10, 1994, says that possibly an earlier dwelling with shingled roof existed on the site, as an 1864 coin has been found in the garden.
