The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It represents the expansion of Fremantle in the gold boom period of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It is historically significant as a representation of commercial buildings in the Fremantle area.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryCollie St is named after Dr Alex Collie, R.N. Surgeon on H.M.S. Sulphur, and Colonial Surgeon. With Lieut. Preston, Collie explored the Collie and Preston Rivers. Dr Collie was later Government Resident at Albany. 14 Collie Street was originally Lot 452 and had a street number of 34 in c. 1916/17. Stephen Lorden owned the land in 1895. There were workshops from as early as 1895 and in 1900 there were stables as well. The following rate period of 1901/02 records that in addition to the stables and workshops there was a warehouse. By 1916/17 a store had been built, owned by Lorden. The tenants were J & L Baker. Physical DescriptionCommercial Building, 14 Collie Street is a single storey, painted brick building with a zero setback from the pavement. The entrance at left has glass double doors and fixed pane windows either side and is at a diagonal setback. There are two large shop front windows centrally, and another glass door entrance to the right hand side of the façade. There is a Colorbond verandah awning projecting from the façade, with no support posts.
