The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an simple example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture.ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryThe land on which house 9 Dorothy Street was vacant in 1903/04 and was owned by Alexander Gunderson. The following year a cottage had been built and was owned by Gunderson and there was no occupant. In 1910/11 Hannah Catherine Lennan was the owner/occupier. Catherine and Peter Lennan were the owner/occupiers into the 1940s. The house is on Lot 7 of 898. Physical DescriptionHouse, 9 Dorothy Street is a single storey timber and iron house constructed in the Victorian Georgian style of Architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with timber weatherboards. The roof is hipped and clad with corrugated iron. The verandah is under a separate corrugated iron bullnose roof supported by chamfered timber posts. The symmetrical front façade has a central front door flanked on either side by timber framed double hung sash windows. There is a two storey extension at the rear. The bottom level is built of limestone block, the top level is timber framed and clad in timber weatherboards in keeping with the original house. There is a face brick chimney evident, with some sort of timber feature adjacent.
