ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as fair (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryHouse, 6 Douglas Street was formerly 20 Douglas Street; numbering changed in 1935/36. This house was built in 1898 for the owner and occupier Arthur Henry Cox who worked as a labourer. The house was recorded as being of two rooms at that time. In 1900 the property was transferred to another labourer, John Ryan who retained the property only until 1901/01. In 1901/02, the property was transferred to Elizabeth Cunningham who owned the property until 1923. During the period of her ownership she occupied the house for some years and at other times the property was leased to tenants, including Daniel Cunningham. The 1908 sewerage plan of the site shows this timber house had a verandah across the front and rear facades. In the back yard was a timber closet. In 1923, the property was transferred to Kate Kemp who leased the house to Anthony Mortimer. In 1924/25, the property was transferred to Jane Jenkin. She owned and occupied the house until 1948/50. In 1948/50, the property was transferred to Marko Petkovich who occupied the house. In 1971, the owner was Zitova Ilic who built a new asbestos laundry in the back yard. In 1990 the owners were Elizabeth Hogben and Michael Seats. A photograph of the place taken in the 1990s, although undated, shows that the house had several additions of asbestos at the rear and the front verandah is enclosed. In 1996, the house was the feature of a real estate article. The accompanying photographs show that the house had been renovated internally and externally although it had no major additions. The front verandah enclosure had been removed and timber balustrades installed. The original windows were in place.
