This cottage was built in 1899 for the owner, Elizabeth Forbes and the occupant is recorded as William Forbes. The Forbes family were owners of the property until at least 1916 and for most of those years they occupied the house. However during the period 1902 to 1906 the house was occupied by ironmonger, Francis Henry Carter and between the years 1905 and 1906, Margaret Bennett occupied the house. The 1908 sewerage plan of the site shows this timber house has a front verandah across the full width of the front façade. At the rear of the building was a small verandah, bathroom, addition and a tank. Close to the rear of the house was a well. In the back yard was a timber closet. This place was identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80 as being of cultural heritage significance. (Coded: Brown: "Positively contributing to the built environment") A photograph of the house taken in 1979/81 shows the front verandah supports have been replaced. The cladding of the house appears to be panelled sheets of asbestos or similar. The iron roof was in good condition and a cyclone wire fence was located on the front boundary. A Heritage Assessment was prepared in May 2010 by the City of Fremantle for a DA submission to Council for the proposed removal of asbestos cladding and replacement with weatherboard cladding, external painting and replacement of the verandah columns.
