The Council renamed a portion of the street Elder Place in 1926, after the company Elder, Smith & Co who had a warehouse in the street. An 1890s signal box made of red brick with a jarrah floor was located between railway lines opposite the south woolstores (demolished) and Goldsborough St. Subsequently demolished.
