The place contributes to a substantially intact late nineteenth and early twentieth century streetscape close to the centre of Fremantle.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryEllen Street was named for Ellen Mangles of Woodbridge, Surrey, England, wife of Sir James Stirling, the Governor. A house was built on the site in 1901/02 for Theodore Vetter, a contractor. The house was occupied by Isaiah Wauhop, a school teacher at the nearby boys’ grammar school at least from 1902 to 1921. Physical DescriptionSingle storey stone with brick quoining to window and door opening and corners of house, has a zincalume hipped and half timbered gable. The dropped verandah returns on the west side and is supported by chamfered timber posts.
