The place contributes to a substantially intact late nineteenth and early twentieth century streetscape close to the centre of Fremantle.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryEllen Street was named for Ellen Mangles of Woodbridge, Surrey, England, wife of Sir James Stirling, the Governor. A house was built on the site for Leopold Bowen, a wharf labourer, in 1902/03. He was the first owner and occupant of the property. Physical DescriptionOriginally a single storey stone house, there has been second storey weatherboard clad additions.
