In May 1915, there is a house under erection. [The 1914 sewerage map (No. 2118) shows No 157, but this was later revised, so it does not determine that the house was built by August 1914.] The 1914 sewerage map (No. 2118) shows a narrow weatherboard house set further back from the street than the adjacent house on the west (No 76). It has a full length front verandah and some small outbuildings to the rear. The house was first listed in Post Office Directories in 1922 with William James Purvis as resident, who lived there until the late 1930s. The house was originally No. 157. It became number 78 when the whole street was renumbered in 1939. A black and white photo dated c1991 shows a small weatherboard dwelling with an iron roof, a gable with the ridge running front to back at the front portion of the house, the gable end with timber boards laid diagonally. There is a sash window on the east side wall, and another window on a weatherboard extension with a skillion roof. The front verandah roof (lowered by three boards below the height of the gable end) has been enclosed on the west side with a door. The front door is on the east side of the verandah.Physical DescriptionHouse, 78 Forrest Street is a single storey timber and iron single faced house constructed as a simple variation of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with timber weatherboards. The roof is gabled and corrugated iron clad. The front verandah has a separate corrugated iron roof and has been partially infilled.
