Numbers were allocated in 1905, at which time the house was No. 182. It became number 85 when the whole street was renumbered in 1939. The 1911 sewerage map (No. 2133) shows a wooden dwelling with a front verandah and a galvanised iron rear extension. The house was rebuilt in 1940, with parts of the previous house being used in the 1940 dwelling, including all doors and windows. The plans for the 1940 house show a central front door with a window either side, a front verandah with 4 plain verandah posts, a hipped roof with the ridge running parallel to the front wall. The floor, including that of the verandah, was concrete, with asbestos sheet walls and an iron roof. Colour photos dated August-November 1994 show a dwelling with an iron roof, a narrow ridge running parallel to the back wall, with what appears to be a filled-in back verandah under the main roof.Physical DescriptionHouse, 85 Forrest Street is a single storey timber and iron house constructed as a simple variation of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with timber weatherboards. The roof is hipped and corrugated iron clad. The front verandah sits under an extension of the main roof. The verandah is supported by simple timber posts with decorative timber brackets. The symmetrical façade has a central entry door and timber framed windows symmetrically placed either side of the central door. The place has a painted timber picket front boundary fence and mature tree plantings inside the lot and on the verge.AssociationPlace UseOriginal Use – RESIDENTIAL: Single storey residencePresent Use – RESIDENTIAL: Single storey residenceIntegrity/AuthenticityPlace TypeIndividual Building or Group
