Joseph Doonan was the Comptroller of the Prison and J. Doonan & Sons were also storekeepers in Adelaide Street. Lionel Holdsworth owned a large amount of land in the area and after his death in 1901 the street name was changed. The house that stands on 34 Holdsworth Street was built for £800 in 1940/41 and the owner/occupier was Luigi Merendino. The house is on Lot 5. Physical DescriptionHouse, 34 Holdsworth Street, is a single storey brick and tile house constructed in the Inter-War California Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are painted brick. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with tiles. There is a painted chimney evident. The verandah is under a separate dropped gable tiled roof supported by masonry pillars. There is a wrought iron balustrade. The asymmetrical front façade has a front room under the larger gable with timber framed casement windows either side of a fixed pane window, under a tiled awning. The facade under the verandah roof has a door and similar windows. The house is situated at street level.
