The renumbering of the street in 1935/36 did not affect this property. This house is first recorded in the Post Office directories in 1899 and the occupant was Captain William S Owston. Captain Owston was a master mariner and landowner in the area. The property retained an association with the Owston family until at least 1905 as Mason Owston was the occupant at this time. The 1908 sewerage plan of this site shows this brick house has a verandah at the front and portion of the back of the building. A number of additions in brick and timber were present on the back of the house as were two water tanks. In the back yard was a large timber shed and a stone closet. A stone wall was present on the front boundary except for a portion on the eastern side.
