The place contributes to the substantially intact streetscape.ConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryLot 822 was owned originally by William Owston from 1879, followed by Jonathon Crake and J K Hitchcock from 1880. Then various owners until Hicks family, who owned the lot from 1899 to 1959. The house was built 1886. The Hicks' were a significant Fremantle family, as merchants J A Hicks & Co., Drapers/Clothiers. Alterations were made to the cottage in 1976 and 1986. The 1986 alterations were carried out by Brian Klopper, at which time a photographic record was prepared. Physical DescriptionSingle storey rendered house with ashlar effect quoining and corrugated hipped roof, setback from the pavement, behind a picket fence and established trees. The roof has three chimneys with corbelling and extends over the three-sided verandah, which is supported by chamfered timber posts and has timber balustrades (probably not original). The façade features two sets of French doors and the main entrance; led to by prominent and rendered front steps.
