The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture. ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryPhysical DescriptionHouse, 20 Russell Street is a single storey brick and zincalume house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are rendered brick. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with zincalume. The verandah is under a separate bullnose zincalume roof supported by timber posts. The asymmetrical front façade has a protruding front room under the gable roof with two double hung timber framed windows. The facade under the verandah roof has a single door as well as double doors, (more than likely replacing original timber framed windows). The house is situated at street level. There is a timber picket fence to the front boundary line.
