The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture.ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryHouse, 160 South Terrace was built by 1900. John Shannon lived in the cottage in that year. By 1901/02, it was owned by J Hicks and occupied by Mrs Brimscoll, a widow. By 1920, House, 160 South Terrace was owned by Ada Wennstrom and occupied by Agnes Grady. This continued to be the situation until c. 1930 when Ms Grady moved out. Ada owned the house until at least the mid-1960s and it was a rental property throughout this time. This place was included in the list of heritage places in the City of Fremantle identified by the Fremantle Society (1979/80) - BROWN -significant for making a positive contribution to the built environment of Fremantle. Physical Description160 South Terrace is a single storey, rendered masonry and iron house with a symmetrical façade built c1895 and designed as an example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture. The walls are rendered masonry with some brick cladding later applied. The roof is hipped and clad with corrugated iron. The façade is symmetrical with a central front door with fanlight and modern security screen flanked on either side by double hung sash windows with modern security screens. The verandah has a separate flat roof supported by double steel posts with steel balustrade.
