The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Inter War Bungalow style of architecture. ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistorySuffolk Street is named after the English county, as per Norfolk and Essex Streets. This house was renumbered twice since its original construction. Originally it was 16 Suffolk Street and was changed to 24 Suffolk in 1934/35 then changed again in 1960-64 to the current number 26 Suffolk Street This house was built by Anthony Grljusich as an investment property for himself in 1945/46. Construction was delayed over a period of two years as there was difficulty obtaining materials in the post war years. Previously the lot was the site of three stone cottages which were located on the rear boundary of the property. The occupant of the house was Emily White who had been a tenant of one of the former cottages A garage was built on the property in 1965. This place was identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80 as being of cultural heritage significance. (Coded: Yellow: “Contributing to the unique character of Fremantle”) A photograph of the house taken in 1978 shows that the house had a low fence on the front boundary. The place was in good condition. Physical Description26 Suffolk Street is a single storey brick and tile house constructed in the Inter War period. A typical Inter War bungalow, the house has face brick walls and a hipped tile roof. There is a projecting front room and a projecting front porch with a hipped tiled roof.
