The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Inter War Bungalow style of architecture. ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistorySuffolk Street is named after the English county, as per Norfolk and Essex Streets. This house was renumbered twice since its original construction. Originally it was 14 Suffolk Street and was changed to 26 Suffolk in 1934/35 then changed again in 1960-64 to the current number 28 Suffolk Street. This house was built in 1949 for the owner Tom Grljusich as an investment property for a cost of $1100. This place was identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80 as being of cultural heritage significance. (Coded: Yellow: “Contributing to the unique character of Fremantle”) A photograph of the place in 1978 shows that a low brick wall was in evidence across the front boundary. A wire mesh gate was fixed between this house and the adjacent property at 26 Suffolk Street. This provided access to the rear of both properties. In 1986, a residence was built at the rear of the property for the owner G. Nom. In 1997, the house had been rendered and the front yard had been paved to provide parking. Internally the house had undergone renovations including the removal of some internal walls. Physical Description28 Suffolk Street is a single storey brick and tile house constructed in the Inter War period. A typical Inter War bungalow, the house has rendered brick walls and a hipped tile roof. There is a projecting front room and a front porch with a tiled roof. A limestone and iron fence runs along the front boundary line.
