Heritage TitleHOUSE, 14 ADA STREETAddress14 Ada Street SOUTH FREMANTLE WA 6162Geo tag[1] Heritage Place No20180Street Number14Construction Commenced1907cStatement Of SignificanceHOUSE, 14 ADA STREET has cultural heritage significance as a modified c1907 house. Despite several alterations, including modifications to the windows and a double garage which is difficult to distinguish from original built form, the original c1907 house remains extant.
Constructed in c1907, the house reflects the expansion of Fremantle during the early 1900s, a time when the Western Australian gold rush and Federation brought economic growth and increased settlement. Its weatherboard and stone construction and iron roofing are indicative of the resourceful building practices of the time, particularly in working-class and middle- class areas where accessible and durable materials were favoured.HistoryHOUSE, 14 ADA STREET is a weatherboard and stone house with alterations. By 1907, there was a weatherboard and stone house with a full length front verandah on the lot (then numbered 12 Ada Street). It shared a wall with the adjacent house at (then) 10 Ada Street. At this time, there was a limestone wall across the front of the lot and a large weatherboard outbuilding at the rear of the lot. The same configuration is shown on a 1950s diagram. Despite several alterations the original house remains extant.
