The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the South Fremantle area.ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryIn 1895, Sub 46, Town Lot 14 was vacant land owned by Chamberlain, Wray and Davies. These men responsible for the subdivision of the area in that year and by 1900, the lot had been sold to John Nelly. It is not known when the land changed hands, but by 1910/11, Edward Day was listed as the owner and occupier of a cottage on the lot. At this time, the cottage was numbered 12 Harbour Road. By 1915/16, the house was listed as being owned by Catherine Day and occupied by Albert Day, before being sold to Joseph Lawn. The property passed from the Estate of Joseph Lawn to Elizabeth Lawn in 1930/31. Mrs Lawn remained the owner until at least 1944/45 and in 1949/50, the property was sold to Phyllis Dickens by Francis Fuller. A diagram dated 1954 shows a house, rectangular in plan form, with a full length front verandah and a centrally located front path, with a second path or driveway leading from the street down the side of the house and to the rear. A large asbestos shed (possibly a garage) was located in the back yard at this time, along with a separate lavatory. House, 2 Harbour Road was owned by Frederick Nunn from the early 1950s to at least the mid-1970s. This place was included in the "Heritage Study South Fremantle", prepared by John Taylor Architects, for the City of Fremantle, June 1993. It was also included in the list of heritage places in the City of Fremantle identified by the Fremantle Society (1979/80) - BROWN -significant for making a positive contribution to the built environment of Fremantle. Physical DescriptionSingle storey weatherboard and iron cottage with an asymmetrical façade constructed in c1905. The walls are painted horizontal weatherboards and fibre cement sheeting. The roof hipped with no eaves and clad with corrugated iron. The verandah is under a broken back corrugated iron roof. The verandah has been later partially enclosed with fibre cement sheeting and timber framed windows. A painted brick chimney is intact.
