The street was formerly known as James Street, the change occurring in 1901/02. By 1907, a small weather board cottage had been built on Lot 28 (later 6 Hickory Street). The owner at this time was Captain Frank Biddles. The house was demolished c. 1910 and in 1925/26, Lot 28 remained vacant land, owned by the Estate of John Ellis. In 1930/31, a house was under construction for Walter and Mabel Beesley. The Beesleys remained the owners until 1951/52, when the house was purchased by Alfred George Rowe. Mr Rowe, a lumper, lived in the house until at least 1974. A diagram dated 1954 shows House, 6 Hickory Street as a large weatherboard house with a centrally located path leading from the street to the front door. No front verandah is shown on the diagram, although there was a full length rear verandah. The house has had a number of owners since the late 1970s.
