It was renamed in 1909/10 for Reverend J G Jenkin of the South Fremantle Methodist Church. House, 31 Jenkin Street was built c. 1900 for owner Arthur Illingworth, a stonemason. Together with his wife Mary, Arthur retained ownership of the house until c. 1930. The house was subsequently owned by members of the Chalwell family – Christian (c. 1935), John (c. 1940 to c. 1965) and then Josephine (to early 1970s). A diagram dated 1954 shows House, 31 Jenkin Street as a large house, comprised of a brick section at the front, with an asbestos addition behind. The façade had a projecting room and a half-length verandah. By 1988, the original house had been demolished and a new house designed by Ross McDonald built in its place. This place was included in the "Heritage Study South Fremantle", prepared by John Taylor Architects, for the City of Fremantle, June 1993. It was also included in the list of heritage places in the City of Fremantle identified by the Fremantle Society (1979/80) - BROWN -significant for making a positive contribution to the built environment of Fremantle.
