H Maxwell Lefroy was Comptroller (Superintendent) of the Fremantle Prison from 1859-1876. The portion of the street between South Terrace and Attfield Street was previously called Trinity Street (1908/09), then Sinclair St (1909/10). In 1890/91, a two roomed cottage was built on this lot for pensioner, Thomas Stewart. At this time, the street was unnamed. In 1895, the cottage was described as comprising three rooms and was owned by Eliza Stewart (Thomas’ wife) and occupied by William Dixon, a clerk. By 1898, the cottage had been expanded to comprise four rooms and Eliza and Thomas Stewart were in residence. In 1897, the cottage was occupied by customs officer Wilfred Woodcock. The Stewarts were back in residence in 1899, when two cottages were listed on the lot. A diagram dated c. 1905 shows stone cottages at 10 and 12 Lefroy Road. The two cottages shared a common wall. In 1920/21, the cottages were owned by George Stewart and occupied by Eliza Stewart (10 Lefroy Road) and Angelina Hoddy. In 1930/31, Samuel Stiles and Alfred Curedale were the occupants. In 1935/36, the cottages were owned by W A Folwer Investments. John Wylie lived in No. 10 while No. 12 was unoccupied at this time.
