The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the residence from the post war period.ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryLilly Street is named after James Lilly, who was manager of the Adelaide Steamship Company from 1886 to 1889. Lilly was born in Tasmania in 1845 and died in Claremont in 1905. The majority of the houses in the street date from the 1890s and early 1900s. House, 26 Lilly Street was built c. 1956 for either J Sargent or Mrs Santa Cangemi. Prior to that, a shed had been on the lot for several years. Mrs Cangemi lived in the house for several years until the 1960s, when Erwin Strelau moved in. He lived there until at least 1974. This hosue has been demolished. Physical DescriptionHouse, 26 Lilly Street is a single storey rendered masonry and iron cottage with a symmetrical facade. The walls are painted and rendered masonry. The house sits on limestone foundations and the roof is hipped and iron. There is a small centrally located curved edge porch over the front door. This porch is supported by round steel posts. The front porch is raised from the ground level and has a curved limestone edge. The balustrade is metal with geometric pattern. The front elevation is symmetrical with two windows and a central front door.
