The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture.ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryThis street was surveyed on the sub-division of a large block of land belonging to Sir Henry Briggs. The land was called Briggs Paddock and the speculation is that the streets were named after treasures such as silver, gold and coral, because in fact, the land was originally pure white sand covered with rushes, and held no mineral wealth. The eastern section of the street was called Stanley Street until 1952/53. House, 3 Silver Street was built c. 1900. A sewerage diagram dated 1954 shows House, 3 Silver Street as a weatherboard house with a full length front verandah, set close to the front boundary and abutting the western boundary. There was a small verandah and weatherboard outbuilding to the rear. A path leading down the centre of the backyard to a galvanised iron building in the middle of the yard was built sometime after 1908. This place was included in the list of heritage places in the City of Fremantle identified by the Fremantle Society (1979/80) - RED -significant for contributing to the unique character of Fremantle. Physical Description3 Silver Street is a single storey timber and iron house constructed c.1900 in the Victorian Georgian style of architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with timber weatherboards. The roof is hipped and clad with corrugated iron. The verandah is under a separate corrugated iron roof supported by timber posts. The symmetrical front façade has a central front door with fanlight flanked on either side by timber framed double hung sash windows. The house is situated at street level.
