The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of houses in the South Fremantle area.ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryHouse, 5 Walker Street was built c. 1945 for Josephine Gervase. It replaced an earlier cottage on the lot that had been built c. 1900. . John Pickett, a government employee, was listed as the owner and occupant in 1900. In 1905/06, John Piggott was listed as the owner. He retained ownership until his death c. 1944. The cottage was occupied by tenants during this time. Josephine Gervase bought the property in 1944/45 and in that year, it was listed as vacant land. A residence was subsequently built and Ms Gervase lived there until c. 1985. The property has been owned by the Poole family since that time. A diagram dated 1954 shows a weatherboard and asbestos house with a projecting front room and half-length front verandah.Physical DescriptionSingle storey weatherboard, fibre cement sheet and tile cottage with an asymmetrical facade constructed in 1945. The walls are painted horizontal weatherboards and fibre cement sheeting. The roof hipped with eaves and clad with terracotta tiles. The verandah is under a broken back tiled roof which extends infront of the projecting front room. The verandah roof is supported by square rendered masonry pillars. The house is elevated from the street level.
