The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the South Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture.ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryHouse, 20 Walker Street was built c. 1900. In 1900, Wilhemina Warne was listed as the owner. J P Warne, a hawker, was listed as the occupant of the cottage at this time. In 1905/06, Walter Luyer was listed as the owner and Edward Hankinson, a labourer, was the occupant. Mr Hankison bought the property c. 1910 and continued to live there until c. 1920, when the house was sold to Percival and Emma Hillbrick. A diagram dated 1954 shows a weatherboard cottage with a full length front verandah. Separate galvanised iron and asbestos additions are shown to one side, and paving connected the back of the house with a separate galvanised iron laundry. The Hillbricks owned the house until early 1960s, when it was bought by Christopher and Georgina Phatouros. Between c. 1970 and c. 1990, House, 20 Walker Street was owned and occupied by Sydney Blaize, a Service Pensioner. The property has been owned by the Longley family since that time.Physical DescriptionSingle storey weatherboard and iron cottage with a symmetrical facade designed as a late example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture. The walls are painted horizontal weatherboards. The roof hipped with no eaves and clad with corrugated iron. The verandah is under separate corrugated iron roof with square timber posts and decorative cross shaped brackets. The front facade is symmetrical with a central front door and timber framed windows either side.
