Fox, President Abraham Lincoln's Assistant Secretary of the Navy. The keel for DLG-33 was authenticated and laid in ceremonies at Todd Shipyards, Los Angeles Division, San Pedro, California on 15 January 1963.
The ship served in the Vietnam Conflict as well as the Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean and Pacific theatres.
Fox concluded her last overseas cruise near the end of 1993 and immediately began inactivation preparations. Decommissioned in mid-April 1994 and was laid up at Inactive Ship Facility, Suisun Bay, California. Plaque gifted to the City of Fremantle from delegation from USS Fox in September 1987 - The USS Fox (CG-33) visited Fremantle, Australia in September 1987 as part of the Constellation Battle Group. The ship was alongside Victoria Quay, along with other vessels in the group, including the USS Worden (CG-18), USS Crommelin (FFG-37), USS Niagara Falls (AFS-3), and USS Valley Forge (CG50).
