Andrew Olaf Berglund was born circa 1892 in Melbourne Victoria to Andrew and Lilly Berglund. Andrew was one of several siblings, with Cyril (1894), Lily (1896), Charles (1899), Frederick (1901), Nellie and George (1903), Ellen (1905) and Cyril (1907).
After Andrew's birth the family moved from Victoria to Western Australia and took up residence in Fremantle. They resided at Maud Street Chesterfield (present day Beaconsfield). By the time of the Great War the family was living at Beard Street Beaconsfield.
Andrew had been educated locally but after leaving school he took up work as a sailor.
At the time of the Great War he was working for the Merchant Navy and was soon working aboard the Australian Hospital Transport Ships.
He died on the 12th May 1919 aboard the HMAT Karoola and was buried at sea near the Canary Islands.
In 2015 his name was officially added to the Commonwealth War Graves list of war dead.
