Sister Olive Edith Jeffrey - Australian Army Nursing Service
Olive Edith Jeffrey was born in Bunbury WA circa 1894 to Annie and James Jeffrey.
By the time of the Great War she was a staff nurse living in Fremantle when she enlisted into the Australian forces for service overseas.
She was assigned to the Hospital Ship RMS Mooltan which left Fremantle Harbour on the 18th June 1917.
Her next of kin was her father in Northam and interestingly she listed her religious belief as 'Free Thinker'.
The RMS Mooltan arriving in Egypt in July and Sister Jeffrey disembarked and was taken on strength of the 14th Australian General Hospital.
She spent the war on duty at the 14th AGH and 31st General Hospital in Egypt and when the war was over went to England and was able to secure non military employment through the AIF educational scheme. Olive undertook a Physical Training Course which would aid her nursing career.
In September 1919 Olive returned to the service in the AIF and was sent to the 1st Australian General Hospital at Sutton Veny Camp.
She returned to Western Australia aboard the ship Kongin Louise disembarking at Fremantle on the 28th January 1920. Olive Jeffrey was discharged from military service on the 7th March 1920.
