7938 Private Edward Hamilton Allen - 16th Battalion
Edward Hamilton Allen was born on the 26th September 1901 in Coogee Fremantle to William and Mary Allen. He was educated locally and after leaving school he took up work as a Gardener.
Despite being underage he was accepted for service with the AIF. He served in France with the 16th Battalion and saw service with them through 1917/18.
He was wounded on the 8th July 1918 in the vicinity of Hamel France but had returned to his until in late August and he served with the 16th Battalion until the Armistice. In January 1919 he was transferred to the 4th Motor Transport Company.
Edward arrived back in Fremantle on the 26th December 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on the 12th February 1920.
Edward moved south to Busselton and in 1926 he married Beatrice Smith at Plantagenet
In 1931 he was a foreman for the Main Roads Department and was living at Toodyay though the family later moved to Maylands and by the time of World War Two were living in East Perth.
In World War Two Edward enlisted and served with the 22nd Australian Field Company Royal Australian Engineers
Edward died in 1949.
