AuthorRyan John GuilfoyleDescriptionCastles of Noongar Boodja takes us back to the pre-colonisation of Western Australia to the time the rot set into our recorded history. Misinformation was rife from the outset; from the description of the fully-armed battleship the Sulphur as a 'transport vessel', the militarisation of Garden Island, to 'castle architectture' under the guise of a law enforcement headquarters. Almost like they planned for a war..but you can make up your own mind about that. In the meantime, here's a spoiler. Castles lays to rest the misconception that Noongar people were passive in Stirling's takeover. Hand-written accounts and letters confirm the Governor's contempt and fear of Noongar warriors who were fierce defenders of their boodja. Much later, Noongar warriors bravely fought alongside their conquerors in international conflicts. The old adage 'history is written by the winners' has been replaced with the new, 'history can be re-written by the truth!.
The book has received good feedback from the royal historical society of Western Australia as it includes new quotes from leading WA historians pertaining to the usage of an English Bomb vessel and battle hardened regiment of the 19th century English empire engaging in murderous ethnic cleansing. The book discusses the possibility of the fremantle roundhouse being used as a castle to fend off attacks by Noongar war parties protecting their lands.ImprintW.A. : Noongar Publishing, 2024Collation71 pages : illustrations ; 21 cmLanguageEnglishDate Published2024NotesIncludes footote bibliographical references.Dewey Class994.102 GUIPublication FormatBook
