Staff Nurse Eugenie Augusta Crohan - Australian Army Nursing Service
Eugenie Crohan was born in Casterton Victoria Australia in 1882 to John and Anatasia McMahon. Unfortunately Anatasia died not long after her birth.
Much of her early life is unknown but in 1901 she was in Kalgoorlie, living with her sister Ethel and father John.

In 1904 her father John died in Albany and by 1906 Eugenie was living in Bunbury Western Australia where she was working as a waitress.
Her sister Ethel appears to have returned to Victoria where she soon married.
Eugenie was also studying to become a nurse and from 1910 to 1913 was working for the Perth Public Hospital and subsequently moved to Fremantle and was working at Fremantle Hospital in South Terrace where she was working as the Sister in Charge.
On the 28th February 1916 Eugenie enlisted into the Australian Army Nursing Service. She was accepted as fit for service.
The medical examiner found her to be fit for service and recorded her physical attributes as;
Height – 5 feet 4 & ½ inches tall;
Weight – 125lbs;
Complexion – Dark;
Eyes – Brown;
Hair – Brown.
She was initially assigned to No.7 Section Sea Transport Staff and also saw service at the No.1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital and No.2 Australian Auxiliary Hospital and through the war years saw service in Egypt, France and England.

Eugenie married in New Zealand 1919 to John William Johnson and continued nursing in Wellington, they then went to live in England.
Eugenie Augusta Johnson nee Crohan died in London England on the 10th January 1961
