Private Edward Henson Broadhurst - 10th Light Horse Regiment
Edward Henson Broadhurst was born on the 1st February 1890 in Fremantle WA to Daniel and Cora Broadhurst. He was one of four children, with, Harry (1891), Edith (1893) and Leta (1897).
After Edward's birth the family moved up to Shark Bay before returning to live in Canning in the 1900's.
Unfortunately it appears that the war service record for Edward does not exist but when he enlisted he was working as an Orchardist at Kelmscott.
Edward enlisted on the 31st March 1916 and was sent to Blackboy Hill Camp where he was assigned to the 19th Reinforcements to the 10th Light Horse Regiment. He trained in Fremantle for a few months then embarked upon the transport ship RMS Mongolia which departed Fremantle Harbour on the 17th July 1916.
Edward served with the 10th Light Horse Regiment through 1916 to 1919 and would have seen action at Gaza and Beersheba in 1917. In operations around Beersheba he was wounded by shrapnel though returned to serve with the 10th Light Horse in 1918/19.
He returned to Fremantle on the transport ship Oxfordshire in August 1919.
His brother Henry Redcliffe Broadhurst had served with the Australian Army Service Corps during the war and returned home in 1919.
He married Greta Charlotte Morley in 1923, and had children, Greta, Cora, Colin, Dorothy and Marjory in the following years.
He returned to Kelmscott after the war and resumed his work as an Orchardist. He then moved to Manjimup in the 1930's and resumed his farming.
Edward died on the 8th August 1976 at Manjimup aged 86.
