It is aesthetically significant as an example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. It is historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions and commercial activity in the outer Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Inter-War California Bungalow style of architecture. The place has undergone significant alterations but original form remains intact. ConditionCondition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryThe Metropolitan Sewerage map sheet 2133 dated November 1928 indicates no building on the block at that time.Physical DescriptionShop & House, 119 Marmion Street is a single storey rendered masonry and tile corner shop and house constructed in the Inter-War California Bungalow style of architecture. The shop has no setback from the street. The walls are rendered and glass. There is a suspended steel awning with a simple rendered parapet above. The house is set back behind and to the side of the shop, and has walls that are face brick to dado height and rendered above. The house roof is hipped and gabled and clad with tiles.
