It was a 33.6 metre wooden schooner carrying furniture, 2000 sacks of grain, 12 crew and three passengers. The vessel had been built in Fremantle in 1878 by James Storey and was registered out of Fremantle, owned by Daniel J. Avery. It was at the end of a voyage from Colombo to Fremantle under the command of William Miles. Artefacts including a rudder gudgeon, porthole with glass, keel plate and flange have been salvaged from the wreck site.
