Construction Commenced1878HistoryThe Diana was at anchor after a voyage from Port Natal to Fremantle when it was wrecked and sunk with a cargo of ballast on 16 July 1878. It lies in Cockburn Sound near Owen’s Anchorage. The vessel was a 33.6 metre long wooden schooner built in Teignmouth, Devon in 1860, and registered in the port of Aberystwyth, Wales. It was owned by Mrs E. Edwards and under the command of Captain Humphrey Humphreys when it was lost. All those on board survived the wreck. A hull spike, brass bolts and two unidentified brass fittings have been salvaged from the wreck site.
