The name was included in a list of postal districts submitted by the Postmaster General's Department in May 1954. Its boundaries were defined in 1955 and in May 1959, the suffix 'park' was officially deleted. From "City of Light" by Stephen Yarrow. 1980. Letter from Nomenclature Advisory Committee 18/12/1967, pointing out that the use of the suffix "Park" was both misleading and inappropriate, and asking council to signify their agreement to the deletion of the word Park and the regazettal of the locality as Hilton. Council Minutes 21/3/1927: Hillton Progress Association - 3. Deputation from the Hillton Progress Association: Cr. Stevens introduced the deputation, and informed His Worship that the two speakers would be Mr. Jane, President of the Association, and Mr. Chivers. Mr. Jane said his Association desired the Council to give consideration to the following matters: 1. That the district we represent, viz., "that portion of the Town of Fremantle , bounded on the North by the Golf LInks, on the East as far as houses go, on the South by the Commonage, on the West by York and Taylor Streets, but not including them, be known as 'HILLTON' or some better name you may suggest, that will be euphonious and descriptive of the locality. Postal Localities on Misc Plan 210 Sheet 19. Named after Hilton Park a reserve in the area. Included (as Hilton) in a list of postal districts sumitted by the P.M.G. in May 1954. Boundaries first shown in the 1955 Metropolitan Street Directory but previously shown as "Hilton Park" on some maps until May 1959, when it was agreed thta the suffix park should not be used. (CORR 4835/53 Vol.2, Page 9 and 40). Southern boundary amended to precisely follow the city boundary, as shown Map at page 45 of Nomenclature File 1551/1990V1 page 46 - Approved 23/10/1991. Locality boundaries shown on misc. plan 1210, sheet 19 (superceded). The postal locality of Hilton covers an area of 272.64 Ha. The suburb of Hilton is administered by the City of Fremantle.
