Title (extended title only)Dewey: 994.11DescriptionAn industrial area near Fremantle appropriately named after Charles Yelverton O'Connor, Engineer in Chief and General Manager of the Railways of Western Australia in the 1890's. It was O'Connor's genius that resulted in the construction of the Goldfield's water pipeline, Perth's suburban railway and the Fremantle Harbour, all of which were planned and instigated by O'Connor. He took his life in 1903 some months prior to the successful completion of the Goldfields Water Scheme after being accused of wasting public money on the scheme which critics said would never work.* 1946 - proposal to establish an industrial area adopted. 1947 - zoning for industry granted. First block sold to Rheem (Australia) Ltd. for $2 an acre, plus cost of road and drainage construction. 25/1/1955 - Name O'Connor approved by the minister.
