Reference numberE000054-23DescriptionThe Independent Order of Rechabites was registered as a Friendly Society and existed for the mutual benefit of it members. Amongst other functions it provided an form of co-operative insurance for its members. the building appears to have been construced c.1896, when it first appears on the rates record. according to Kerr an additional storey was added to the brick and iron hall in 1904. extensive alterations were made throughout. THe building served as a meeting place, and later adapted for emergency accommodation. The building remained the property of the Order until 1941 when it was sold to A E Howard. It was purchased by Legacy in 1966.
