His son, Septimus Burt, became the first Attorney-General under Responsible Government. The property was built for Matthew John Williams, the first owner and occupant. In 1983 the interior was described as follows: Original ceiling roses, decorated high skirting boards, architraves and doors, original fireplaces with art nouveau tile surrounds, and hall arch. Plans of the front elevation show that the house is substantially altered with an office, Porch and sunroom added, and a face brick garage (pre-1980). Additions and Alterations including a 2 storey extension housing bedroom, en suite and lounge, and use of the roof space as a library were made in 1988. Later additions to the house at the rear were demolished.
