The place contributes to a substantially intact late nineteenth and early twentieth century streetscape close to the centre of Fremantle.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryLoukes Street was previously Percy Street. House, 9 Loukes Street was originally number 19. It became number No 9 in 1940/43. According to the council rate records a cottage was constructed on lot 6 of 3 in 1895 for Frederick Scott Loukes. Mr Loukes was a Fremantle councillor (1902-1910) and was employed by W D Moore and Co until his death in 1919. His wife Evelyn continued to occupy the property until her death in 1936. Physical DescriptionSingle storey stone with brick quoining to window and door openings and corners of house. The house is set back from the pavement and has a zincalume hipped roof and decorative timberwork supported by timber brackets to the front gable. There is a rendered bay with timber mullions, timber double hung sash windows and a faceted zincalume roof above decorative timber brackets. A dropped verandah has rendered pillars onto masonry balustrading which is probably not original.AssociationF. S.
