It has aesthetic value as a Victorian Georgian style house and for its contribution to a substantially intact late 19th and early 20th century streetscape close to the centre of Fremantle. It is representative of the typical building stock constructed within the residential areas of Fremantle before WW1 and demonstrates the suburban expansion of Fremantle in the Gold Boom era.ConditionGood (assessed from street only)History11 Tuckfield Street is shown on a plan from 1909 as a stone house with a front and back verandah. At this time most of Tuckfield Street and the surrounding streets had been almost fully developed.
Historic aerial photographs show that between 1965 and 1974 the original roof shape and front verandah were modified, and the chimneys were removed. A Fremantle Society photograph from 1980 shows the modified roof form and steel framed verandah together
with a cement render wall finish and horizontal format windows which were most likely changed at the same time.
Conservation works were undertaken in the 1990s including the removal of cement render to the facade and repair of limestone and brick quoins. The verandah posts, balustrade and timber verandah floor were also
replaced.Physical Description11 Tuckfield Street is a single storey limestone house that is slightly elevated above the street. The design is typical of Gold Boom era residential development in Fremantle. The house has a central door flanked by windows and a front verandah which is separate from the main hipped roof. The house was modified in the Post War Era with horizontal format windows, a tiled roof and cement render. The front of the house has been partially conserved with the removal of cement render and repointing of the limestone wall and brick quoins and a timber verandah.Place UseOriginal Use: RESIDENTIAL - Single storey residenceIntegrity/AuthenticityIntegrity High / Authenticity ModeratePlace TypeIndividual Building or Group
