The place contributes to a substantially intact late nineteenth and early twentieth century streetscape close to the centre of Fremantle.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryIn 1888 two houses were erected on lot 27 for James Gilchrist. In 1896 the lot and houses owned by James Gilchrist changed from 27 to 29. Lot 27 was vacant and owned by William Wray. In 1897 William Wray erected four cottages on the lot, two of which were number 23-25.Physical DescriptionDuplex 23-25 Tuckfield Street is a single storey rendered stone attached pair with a zincalume hipped roof and timber casement windows. The dropped verandah is tiled and supported by masonry columns and a wrought iron balustrade (not original). The place is set above the ground level with centrally located concrete steps leading up to the verandah.
