Hope who was appointed as the surgeon for Fremantle Prison in 1886. In November 1897 he was the Acting Superintendent of the Lunatic Asylum. Lot 1277 in 1901-02 was vacant land owned by the government. By 1908-09 there is a cottage occupied by Robert Kinross. Note: Council Blue Files have a photo of a house with many Kinross family members standing in front. The photo was dated 1897, however this seems to be incorrect, according to the rate books. A possibility is that this photo relates to a Robert Kinross who lived in Attfield St in 1897 according to Wise’s Post Office Directories.Physical DescriptionHouse, 2 Hope Street is a single storey brick and iron house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are painted brick. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with corrugated iron. The gable has decorative timber battens in a fan shape, and a timber finial. The verandah is under a separate dropped corrugated iron roof. The asymmetrical front façade has a protruding front room under the gable roof with timber framed windows. Vegetation in the front yard prevents further description of the front elevation.
