Her father was railway stationmaster at Fremantle and later transferred to East Perth. The family lived in North Fremantle at first and then built a house in Attfield Street. Life in the country and in Fremantle is described; with details of the Attfield St. house and garden; shopping, family life and discipline,holidays and recreational activities. Mrs Playle tells about Fremantle Technical School and the dressmaking course, fashions, Pellews shop and dressmaking from home. She met George Playle at the Methodist Church and describes their courtship and wedding, their home in Fothergill Street and their family. The Fremantle Music and Dramatic Society, George Playle's business, a cartage and shipping agency and Fremantle during the Second World War.
