AuthorCollins, Allan Francis , 1914-; Campbell, HeatherDescriptionAllan Collins was born in Fremantle in 1914, one of thirteen children. His parents lived in Tuckfield Street. His father had been in the army but after marriage to Eulalie Whitely was taught the building trade by his father-in-law, the builder Thomas Whitely. Allan describes family and social life and his schooling at Christian Brothers College. On leaving school, he joined his father in the building trade but left in 1932 to work as a driver for Paterson and Company for the next 22 years. Patersons became involved in the crayfishing industry at Lancelin, where Allan was asked to investigate the feasibility of transporting crayfish. He eventually became a crayfisherman himself. In 1962 he returned to Fremantle and was secretary of the Fremantle Fishermen's Coop.
